During the first week of the work term, the Mentor and / or Supervisor will be approached by the student in an effort to determine what the expectations are for the work term. In other words, what does the student have to accomplish and / or demonstrate for the work term to be deemed successful. It is the hope of the Co-op Office that this conversation will also include a discussion around student expectations. The student will record the results of this conversation as Step 1 of the Work Term II Expectations and Work Term Report.
A site visit from the Co-op Coordinator will be arranged between week 6 and 10 of the work term. All in-town visits are done in person, out-of-town discusstions / evaluations are done by phone or Skype.
The site visit will consist of:
- A 30 minute meeting with the Co-op Coordinator, Mentor and / or Supervisor, and the student. During this group portion of the meeting the student will provide the Co-op Coordinator with an overview of tasks that have been assigned to date. This will be followed by a review of the expectations that were recorded during Week I of the work term. If the employer or Co-op Coordinator identify any additional skills or learning that would benefit the student, the student will record those in Step 2 of the Work Term II Expectations and Work Term Report. If time permits, the Co-op Coordinator may ask the Supervisor to provide some information on what he / she looks for in Co-op resumes, cover letters, and interviews.
- Another 20-25 minute meeting will follow with the Co-op Coordinator and the student.
Prior to the end date of the work term, an Employer Final Evaluation of Co-op Student Web Form must be completed and reviewed with the student. You will be made aware of the due date for this evaluation by the student you have working for you and it will be noted on the evaluation webform.
